Tan Wei Boon

Deputy Director (Student Life)

Tan Wei Boon is Deputy Director (Student Life) at YST, where he is responsible for overseeing admissions, student support, international relations, and alumni engagement. His office provides essential support for a range of student services, including financial aid, student initiatives, social functions, well-being programs, student activities, freshmen orientation and student discipline. He also oversees the Student Artistic Development Grant and Student Exchange applications.

Wei Boon has three decades of experience as musician. In the 90s, he performed regularly with the NUS Wind Symphony, NUS Symphony Orchestra, Braddell Heights Symphony Orchestra, NIE Symphonic Band, Singapore Youth Orchestra, and the Singapore Lyric Opera. He also performed as a freelance musician with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. In the early 2000s, Wei Boon was a founding member of the award-winning Philharmonic Winds and the Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra (later renamed The Philharmonic Orchestra). From 2009 to 2022, he performed mainly with the Orchestra of the Music Makers.

Wei Boon also taught briefly in several schools in Singapore as a brass tutor and also served as a member of the Singapore National Youth Orchestra Advisory Committee from 2011 to 2015.

From 2013 to 2022, Wei Boon was a Resident Fellow at NUS Sheares Hall, managing the hall’s vibrant cultural groups and in 2023, he joined NUS Tembusu College briefly in the same role. Currently, Wei Boon is coordinator of a working group that engages all the student stakeholders in residential arts groups in NUS, working closely with cultural resident fellows, student leaders and NUS Centre for the Arts.

From 2022 to 2024, Wei Boon was a member of the Association of European Conservatoires (AEC) International Relations Coordinator Working Group, where he contributed to the planning of the AEC IRC conferences in Monopoli (2022), Leuven (2023), and Dublin (2024).

In recognition of his contributions to education, Wei Boon was awarded the Commendation Medal by the President of the Republic of Singapore at the 2010 National Day Honours.
