SHORT COURSES FOR YOUTH
YST Piano Academy
The YST Piano Academy invites outstanding young piano talents to Singapore for a three-day intensive training course, during which they go through daily lessons with YST Piano faculty Prof Thomas Hecht and Assoc Prof Albert Tiu, specialised public masterclasses, as well as a final concert. It is open to prospective students ages 16 to 18 of all nationalities.

Prof Albert Tiu – Head of Piano Studies
Applicants are required to submit the following:
1. Three video recordings – Each piece or movement should be recorded and uploaded separately, labelling each file clearly with the composer and title. For consistency, ensure that each piece is a high-quality unedited recording, performed in one sitting using the same grand piano and venue.
2. One recommendation letter from the applicant’s current piano teacher
3. A list of repertoire performed and/or learnt by the applicant over the past three years
The 12 students selected to perform in the Academy must offer three selections from the five repertoire groups below:
Set A
Any etude by Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninov, Debussy, Scriabin, Bartok, Stravinsky, Moszkowski, Prokofiev, Ligeti or Bolcom.
Set B
Any Prelude & Fugue from The Well Tempered Clavier by J.S. Bach.
Set C
A Sonata movement by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, or Clementi.
Set D
A major work from the Romantic period.
Set E
A work from the 20th century to the present.
There is no application fee. Applicants accepted into the academy are required to pay a course fee of S$300 (inclusive of GST), which covers all Academy expenses and lunch for the three days. A web link with instructions for online payment of fees will be provided in the results email to shortlisted participants. There will be no refund with withdrawal or no-show from the Academy after payment is made.
Accommodation will be at the participant’s own arrangement and expense if not residing in Singapore.
