YST Microphone Toolkit

Objectives
The understanding of microphones and its role in whole signal chain is a critical skill and knowledge to improve the quality of the recordings/ performances. The course helps learners to acquaint with latest professional microphone techniques and set-ups for different situations. For instance, educators can help make better set-ups/recordings for students depending on the type of projects. Musicians can also use these skills for their own recordings/performances when external recording expertise is not always available. Digital content creators will be able to apply them directly for videos, livestreams and podcasts.

Content
This course covers two main topics:

1) Understanding of microphone design and specifications
2) Theory, critical listening and practice of microphone techniques for both classical and pop music.

Entry Requirements
Have some working experience in the music industry
or
Some music-related background
or/and
Passing of interview

Applications are open from 22 April to 13 May 2024.

  • Identify yourself from the dropdown options.
  • Select the ‘Short Course/Modular Course’ option (this is a short course). Click ‘Applying for Myself’.
  • Click ‘Browse Academic Modules/Short Courses’.
  • Select ‘Short Courses’ from the dropdown.
  • Click on the ‘By Faculty’ dropdown (first item under More Filters). Scroll to the bottom and select YST.
  • The list of our Short Courses should appear. Select your module and select ‘Add to Cart’.
  • Once you are done choosing modules (up to five), select ‘Checkout’.

You can then proceed to create an application account to submit your personal details.
