GEX1022 Communicating About the Arts

Course Schedule: Fridays, 10am–12pm (Semester 2, AY2023/24) 

*Additional dates may be involved for projects/assessments during the semester period of 15 Jan – 11 May 2024. Added make-up classes may also be scheduled due to public holidays coinciding with class dates.

Objectives
This course helps learners further develop the concepts and expressive language needed to communicate more effectively about different art mediums and forms, and different ways to communicate about the arts, from opinions and evaluations, to formal reviews, to critical and theoretical responses. These transferrable skills can then be utilised in learners’ own job roles to advise their students or to improve their own materials.

Content
The course applies to anyone in the industry since communication is an essential and important part of the Arts sector and especially in education. Learners will be exposed to discussions regarding all the different facets of Art: Painting, Sculpture, Architecture, Literature, Drama, Music, Dance and Film. With the industry seing a trend of increased cross-disciplinary collaborations, the course can support by providing the necessary background knowledge.

Registration opens on 28 September 2023 and closes on 5 November 2023.

  • Identify yourself from the dropdown options.
  • Select the ‘Short Course/Modular Course’ option (this is a modular course). Click ‘Applying for Myself’.
  • Click ‘Browse Academic Courses/Short Courses’.
  • Select ‘Academic Courses’ from the dropdown. Search for your course and select ‘Add to Cart’. Once you are done choosing courses (up to five), select ‘Checkout’.

You can then proceed to create an application account.
