Production Coordinator (Manager, Productions)

The YST Conservatory Productions team is responsible for organising over 200 concerts and events each year. These events cover a wide range of programmes including concerts, masterclasses, festivals, seminars, symposia and competitions, all of which meet the high standards expected of an internationally renowned conservatoire.

As a Production Coordinator, you will develop expertise in managing the administrative, operational, creative and financial aspects of conservatory-related programming and production. You will play a key role in supporting the team with tasks such as managing the production budget and coordinating the various moving parts that ensure the successful delivery of events.

This position is critical to the smooth planning and execution of performances and events at the YST Conservatory of Music. You will be responsible for liaising with artists, vendors and technical teams to ensure that all production elements – from staging and lighting to sound and multimedia – meet the needs of the event. Your role will involve both office-based administrative tasks and operational planning, as well as hands-on involvement in production set up, troubleshooting and ensuring a seamless onsite event experience.

Key responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Programming Committee and Artistic Coordinator to produce and deliver in-house programmes at YST.
  • Plan, manage and execute production activities, including administrative and financial matters.
  • Coordinate with venue hirers for external events.
  • Provide additional support for all events, including assistance with set-up, tear-down and piano tuning as required.
  • Coordinate with artists or faculty to understand technical and operational needs.
  • Prepare and maintain essential production documents such as contracts, schedules, layout plans, logistical arrangements.
  • Track production schedules and communicate deadlines to all relevant departments to ensure smooth coordination and completion of tasks.
  • Ensure a safe working environment, regular safety inspections and compliance.
  • Perform any additional duties as directed by the YST management team.

Requirements
We are looking for individuals for the positions of Production Coordinator who have a keen sense of aesthetics, knowledge, and appreciation in one or more artistic disciplines relevant to the performing arts. Our current vacancies will require the following:

  • Good understanding of classical music or other relevant musical genres.
  • Degree from a recognised institution in production and/or stage management.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in the performing arts industry or similar/related field.
  • General people management skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate ideas and information effectively.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
  • Willingness to work as part of a team and take direction is essential.

Research Fellow, Centre for Music and Health

The Centre for Music and Health (CMH) is the first dedicated research centre in South-East Asia to spearhead and investigate cutting edge, evidence-based practices that leverage the efficacy of music for health and well-being. Situated in the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, one of the leading conservatories in Asia, and embedded within a top-tier research university, the CMH is uniquely positioned to catalyse the artistic and scientific excellence of the NUS community towards research excellence in this emerging field. The Centre aims to establish world-class music programmes and interventions to support crucial aspects of health at NUS and in Singapore, and beyond; and to develop interdisciplinary translational research and evaluation methods to support our evidence-based approach. We aspire to become the leading centre for music and health in Asia, pioneering the development of music-based methods and interventions to improve people’s lives.

The Centre for Music and Health is inviting applications for the role of postdoctoral Research Fellow (RF). This role is offered on a 1-year renewable contract basis; renewal is subject to satisfactory job performance.

The Research Fellow will design studies and conduct experimental research, prepare and submit IRB ethics applications, help coordinate research activities, and perform data analyses. The RF will need to be capable of working both independently and in a team, developing innovative solutions, and publishing research findings in high-impact conferences and journals. RF applicants should have a good publication track-record.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and contribute to research projects at the Centre, such as the impact of music on youth mental health.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage with a variety of stakeholders (from academic and clinical partners to policy makers to study participants/patients) and collaborate within interdisciplinary teams.
  • Prepare manuscripts and publish in high-impact journals and conferences, and present at national and international conferences.
  • Contribute to grant writing, funding applications, and other research-related administrative duties.
  • Prepare IRB applications, submit clinical trial registration (when appropriate), and contribute to and maintain the Investigator Site File, paperwork and report writing.
  • Assist in supervising research staff and students.
  • Computational skills a plus (e.g., experience with computational modelling, AI models, familiarity with Python, etc).
  • Familiarity with EEG, Brain-Computer Interfaces, biofeedback systems, or biomarkers (collection and analysis) a plus.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Cognitive Science, Public Health, Medical areas (e.g., Neuroscience), Psychology, Health Economics, or related disciplines.
  • Significant experience with experimental design, quantitative analysis, statistics, and mixed-methods approaches.
  • Strong publication track record.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Some knowledge of music/music theory is strongly desired.

Executive Assistant to Deanery

The Executive Assistant to the Deanery provides administrative and operational support for the Dean and Vice-Deans and serves as the secretariat to the Governing Board.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as first point of contact for the Deanery and the Conservatory.
  • Monitoring YST Conservatory correspondences including phone calls & emails and taking necessary action and responding on behalf as appropriate.
  • Arrange travel and detailed travel itineraries for senior management as well as institutional guests.
  • Assist with visitor experience for institutional guests, such as through facilitating guest visits and supporting VIP receptions.
  • Prepare agendas, take minutes and manage logistics for Board meetings.
  • Organise meetings, coordinate staff forums and maintain strong working relationships with academic and administrative teams.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders from the higher music education sector as well as arts industries and institutional partners in Singapore and globally.
  • Coordinate with Artistic Coordinator and Strategic Project Manager on key institutional projects.

Technical & Operations Executive / Senior Executive

YST is seeking a full-time Technical & Operations Executive or Senior Executive. The role involves assisting in the planning, coordination and professional execution of all technical aspects of performance, rehearsal and academic activities within the Conservatory building for both internal and external events. The Technical & Operations Executive will work closely with the production team (led by the Artistic Coordinator), faculty, visiting artists and students to ensure the seamless delivery of each production and academic activity. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Provide technical support for productions and academic activities including but not limited to classes, rehearsals and performances.
  • Assist in setting up and coordinating technical requirements, including resource and manpower planning.
  • Manage crew scheduling, training and performance.
  • Liaise with external suppliers as required.
  • Support the maintenance, renewal and procurement of technical equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with technical, operational and safety regulations.
  • Ensure that all technical aspects are carried out in a professional manner, contributing to the overall success of events.

 

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Diploma or degree in Theatre Production/Arts Management/Music Performance or related field. A classical music background would be an advantage. 
  • Basic knowledge of stage equipment and production. 
  • Early career professionals with a passion for technical production are encouraged to apply.

Piano Accompanist (Part-Time)

YST is seeking an individual to fill a part-time position as Piano Accompanist. Applicants should have significant performance experience, particularly in relation to clarinet repertoire. Responsibilities include accompaniment for weekly lessons, recitals, masterclasses, ensembles and juries.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with grant writing, writing and submitting IRB ethics applications, collecting data, and organizing and overseeing participants’ payment/reimbursement.
  • Recruit and liaise with study participants, including advertising research studies through various platforms (e.g., in flyer, email, and social media formats, etc), and be the primary point of contact for study participants.
  • Oversee training of CMH Research Assistants and Student Assistants
  • Contribute to literature reviews, experimental design, sample size power analysis, statistics and data analysis, and manuscript writing.
  • Assist with writing up, communicating and disseminating findings/results (in conferences, popular science forums, blogs, social media, etc.) as appropriate.  

Requirements

  • A recognised degree in Music Psychology, Medicine, Public Health, or another area of relevance to Music & Health.
  • At least 1 year of prior research experience.
  • Experience with empirical research experimental design, data collection and analysis.
  • Excellent academic/research writing abilities.
  • Grant writing experience a plus.
  • Good organisational and administrative skills.
  • Able to work independently, but also a good team player.
  • Adaptable and able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
