Jennifer Tham and Julian Wong appointed to YST Conservatory Governing Board
25 January 2025
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Ms Jennifer Tham and Mr Julian Wong to the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music’s Governing Board, effective January 2025. Their extensive contributions to the arts and education will bring invaluable insights and perspectives to the Conservatory.
Jennifer Tham is an esteemed conductor and cultural leader whose influence spans Singapore and the global choral scene. As the Artistic Director of the SYC Ensemble Singers, she champions contemporary choral music and has brought her expertise to choirs and conductors in countries including Canada, France, Hungary and Japan. Jennifer has been recognised with the Cultural Medallion, Singapore’s highest arts accolade, for her enduring impact on the nation’s cultural landscape. Her commitment to advancing choral music is evident in her roles as a chair and speaker on conference and symposia panels across Singapore, Argentina, Denmark, Estonia and Sweden – and as an educator in choral conducting and pedagogy around the world. As co-coordinator of the Asia Pacific Working Committee for the International Federation for Choral Music, Jennifer plays a pivotal role in fostering choral excellence and collaboration across the region.
Julian Wong is a Singaporean composer, arranger, music director, educator, and performer who has garnered numerous accolades, including the 2023 Young Artist Award and the 2024 COMPASS Meritorious Award. A Senior Executive at the Institute of Technical Education’s Centre for Music and the Arts, and a board member of NADI Singapura Ltd, Julian’s passion for celebrating Singapore’s musical heritage is evident in his vast body of work. He has composed for leading theatre companies, including Wild Rice and The Theatre Practice. His works have also been performed internationally, including in the Shanghai International Theatre Festival, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and Spotlight Singapore: Mexico City. Julian’s dedication to nurturing young talent is reflected in his artistic and education work, inspiring future generations of musicians to embrace Singapore’s rich cultural identity.
We warmly welcome Julian and Jennifer to the YST Governing Board and look forward to their contributions in shaping the Conservatory’s artistic and educational offering for students and the community.
