ABOUT THIS EVENT
Joining forces with Conservatory ensemble in residence, Red Dot Baroque, the YST Orchestral Institute presents a journey across time and realms through musical evocations of battles. The program features Marin Marais’ Chaconne from Alcyone, W.F. Bach’s Adagio and Fugue in D minor, Handel’s Concerto Grosso in B-flat Major, Op. 3 No. 1, H.I.F. Biber’s Battalia à 10, and Igor Stravinsky’s Symphony in C – each composition a story-telling of familiar battles that have perennially plagued, confronted, and defined our shared humanity. Different in shape and form these battles may be – spiritual or physical, distantly mythological, or bitingly real – they demand resilience and unwavering hope towards a better future. Laced with empathy and valiance, we offer musical prayers for Halcyon Days (Alcyone’s namesake): an idealised space where peace and calmness prevails, even if fleetingly.
