ABOUT THE EVENT
We know from the diaries of Robert Schumann that he often frequented social ballrooms in his youth. From these impressionable encounters he then fashioned some of his most eloquent and most “autobiographical” piano music. Tonight dazzling duets from Professor Thomas Hecht’s first year Piano Ensemble class explore that esoteric world where dance imagery once again yields highly personalized tone pieces, and this time where four hands are indeed joined together to dance their way through the merriment of his later duet cycles, Ball-Scenen, Op. 109 and the delightful Klavierstücke für kleine und große Kinder, Op. 85.
