ABOUT THIS EVENT

The splendour falls on castle walls
And snowy summits old in story:
The long light shakes across the lakes
And the wild cataract leaps in glory:

Blow, bugle, blow, set the wild echoes flying,
Bugle blow; answer, echoes, dying, dying, dying.

-Alfred, Lord Tennyson (from Benjamin Britten’s Serenade)

Conservatory guests – Ong Teng Cheong Professor in Music, William VerMeulen (Principal Horn, Houston Symphony Orchestra), and Luke Dollman (Senior Lecturer of Conducting at University of Adelaide) – join Prof. Alan Bennett, Head of Vocal Studies at YST, MMus Conducting student Koh Kai Jie, and the Orchestral Institute in a concert that celebrates the depth of support and interconnectivity that reverberates through the power of community. Riddled with lively echoes of inspiration from friends, family and kindred spirits, the program features Arvo Pärt’s Cantus in memoriam Benjamin Britten, Benjamin Britten’s Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings, Op. 31 and Sir Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations, Op. 36 – compositions all born out of communal consonance during times of adversity.
