ABOUT OLLI MUSTONEN

Olli Mustonen visits YST as Ong Teng Cheong Professor in Music 2020, performing a piano recital that reflects upon his 35 year career as a Finnish pianist-composer-conductor, performing works by Sibelius, Chopin, Busoni, Scriabin, and Mustonen himself. He will also hold a piano masterclass and conduct the Conservatory Orchestra in an open rehearsal. Mustonen has brought his extraordinary musical insight to many of world’s most significant orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic and Royal Concertgebouw Orkest. In recognition of his outstanding musical achievements, he is the recipient of the 2019 Hindemith Prize of the City of Hanau. Mustonen’s life as a composer is at the heart of his piano playing and conducting. Frequently bringing his own works to the chamber music stage, the 2019-2020 season sees the World Premiere of his new work Taivaanvalot (Heavenly Lights) for Tenor, Cello and Piano at Het Muziekgebouw, Amsterdam. His new string sextet, commissioned by the Beethoven Festival Bonn, will be premiered in February 2020. Learn more about Olli Mustonen here
