GENFREE
/ˈdʒænˌˈfri/ n. Event
Etymology: Music from the middle ground
1. A wordplay on the intersection of genre and free
2. A midweek evening of music presented by students, faculty and alumni of Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music streamed live from Maduro that adopts classical music as a springboard into a lexicon of musical genres comprising jazz, folk, improvisation and the ilk, insofar as to crossover into the realm of mixology.
Picking up from a doleful debut that delved into the spot between bitter and sweet wherein lied the key of G minor, we return a little wiser, a little heartened, doe-eyed and bushy tailed as multifaceted violinist David Loke and pianist-composer Jonathan Shin—along with Rit Xu on flute and Joachim Lim on percussion—of the Lorong Boys return to the stage to give you a musical education in the birds and the bees. Namely, the birds that appear and the bees that linger when you are near.
