ABOUT THIS EVENT

Each year an expert in contemporary music performance works with students from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory’s composition department. This year flutist Carolin Ralser led presentations and workshops with students to develop their works. In this concert, Ms. Ralser presents the finished works.

About the Artist
Carolin Ralser is a distinguished musician, educator, and researcher, achieving top honors in her Bachelor’s and Master’s studies in flute performance, music education, chamber music, and contemporary music at esteemed institutions like Kunstuniversität Graz, mdw Vienna, Hochschule für Musik Freiburg i.Br. and Frankfurt am Main. Her mentorship under notable figures such as Dieter Flury (Principal flute of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra) and Dietmar Wiesner (Ensemble Modern) shaped her exceptional talent. Carolin’s accolades include winning the International Friedrich Kuhlau Flute Competition and securing scholarships from prestigious entities like the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the Ensemble Modern Frankfurt. Her extensive performance career spans Europe, Japan, China, and South America, gracing renowned festivals and venues. A fervent advocate for contemporary music, she co-founded chromoson, an ensemble dedicated to pushing artistic boundaries. Since 2023, Carolin has been the artistic director of the New Music Days, ensemble chromoson’s academy for contemporary music in Italy.
 
Carolin’s commitment to music education shines through her roles as a educator, composer of contemporary pieces, and lecturer, with former positions at the University of Mozarteum Salzburg/Innsbruck, and currently at the School of the Arts Singapore Music faculty, NUS Centre for the Arts underscoring her impact in shaping the future of music education. Over the last few years, she has collaborated with YST conservatory on many occasions as performer and lecturer.
