The YST Orchestral Institute and the Singapore Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of YST alumnus Luo Wei, come together for a special side-by-side family concert performance. Curated and produced by YST students, this concert features movements from Brahms’s monumental Symphony No. 4.

This performance also explores the rich musical friendship between Johannes Brahms (1833–97) and Antonín Dvořák (1841–1904). Brahms, revered for his depth and complexity, became an essential mentor to the younger Dvořák, whose music radiates warmth and Bohemian spirit. Their connection began when Brahms discovered Dvořák’s Serenade for Strings—a piece that revealed the Czech composer’s gift for lyricism and dance. This program pairs selections from that very work with Brahms’s mighty Symphony No. 4, showcasing not only their artistic bond but also their contrasting voices—Brahms’s introspective intensity and Dvořák’s joyful exuberance.
