Applying for Minor in Performing Arts

Note: The Minor in Performing Arts is not available for Music performance majors, unless they intend to pursue it in a non-music performing arts area (e.g. Dance)

I. Through NUS Centre for the Arts (CFA) Credit-Bearing Groups

When to apply:
No later than the 4th semester of study in NUS

Pre-requisite:
Students must be a current member of one of the following CFA credit-bearing groups AND have either passed, been exempted, or are currently enrolled in CFA1101A/B at the point of application.

  • NUS Chinese Orchestra
  • NUS Symphony Orchestra
  • NUS Wind Symphony
  • NUS Chinese Dance

Application period:
Start of Reading Week to End of Exam Week 1 

Application is to be submitted via myEduRec during the application period for restricted minors and second majors

Notification of results:
By end Dec (Sem 1) & by end June (Sem 2)

II. Through Individual Performing Arts Area

(Applicable for Cohort 2023 onwards.)

Currently, we are considering applications only from those whose area of study is Music or Dance.

When to apply:
No later than the 4th semester of study in NUS

Pre-requisite:

  • Music applicants
    Only applicants who play instruments not featured in any of the CFA credit-bearing music groups (NUS Chinese Orchestra, NUS Symphony Orchestra, NUS Wind Symphony) may be considered.
  • Dance applicants
    Dance applicants via this pathway must have successfully auditioned for and and been accepted into one of the non-credit bearing CFA dance groups: Ballroom, BreakiNUS, Dance Blast!, Dance Ensemble, Dance Synergy, D’Hoppers, Funkstyles, Ilsa Tari, Indian Dance, Jazzttitude, Viva latiNUS.

All individual pathway applicants would be required to submit their performing arts CV, which should include a description of any experiences from the past 5 years that are relevant to their proposed performing arts area study.

Examples of relevant experiences include:

  • Membership in an arts group (please specify the group and the active period of membership)
  • Training received or on-going training
  • Participation in festivals, competitions, concerts, or productions
  • Achievements
  • Etc

Application is to be submitted via myEduRec during the application period for restricted minors and second majors

Notification of outcome:
By end Dec (Sem 1) & by end June (Sem 2)

Note:
Successful students will only be enrolled in the first core course CFA1111A/B Foundational Study in a Performing Arts Area in the following Semester 1. This means that if you are approved to declare the minor in Semester 2, your enrolment in CFA1111A/B will only begin in the subsequent Semester 1. But in the meantime, you may proceed to read other recognised courses.

Applying for Second Major in Performing Arts

Note: The Second Major in Performing Arts is not available for Music performance majors, unless they intend to pursue it in a non-music performing arts area (e.g. Dance)

3rd or 4th semester of study in NUS

Pre-requisite:
Students must be a current member of one of the following CFA credit-bearing groups AND have either passed or are currently enrolled in CFA2101A/B at the point of application.

  • NUS Chinese Orchestra
  • NUS Symphony Orchestra
  • NUS Wind Symphony
  • NUS Chinese Dance

Applicants are required to describe their initial idea for the capstone project in performing arts during application.

 

Application period:
Start of Reading Week to End of Exam Week 1

Application is to be submitted via myEduRec during the application period for restricted minors and second majors

Notification of results:
By end Dec (Sem 1) & by end June (Sem 2)

II. Through Individual Performing Arts Area

(Applicable for Cohort 2023 onwards)

When to apply:
3rd or 4th semester of study in NUS

Pre-requisite:
Applicants must have already declared Minor in Performing Arts (through Individual Performing Arts Area) at the point of application.

Applicants are required to describe their initial idea for the capstone project in performing arts during application.

Application period:
Start of Reading Week to End of Exam Week 1

Application is to be submitted via myEduRec during the application period for restricted minors and second majors

Notification of results:
By end Dec (Sem 1) & by end June (Sem 2)
