Lorong Boys

Ensemble-in-Residence

The Lorong Boys are genre-defying musicians on a mission: to toe the line between madness and madcap brilliance at every performance. Their incredible versatility, technique, and love for the unbound improvisation means that no genre is out of reach, no territory out of bounds. Hailed as “society’s new revolutionaries” (The Straits Times) when they first burst onto the Southeast Asian scene in 2014, the Boys are at home anywhere in the world—wherever there are people, there is musical fun to be had.

Their boldness and sense of adventure has taken them on performance tours in Asia, including various parts of Indonesia and South Korea. The Boys have also been featured multiple times on almost every TV channel and radio station in Singapore, including the Jubilee celebrations, with the SG50 Gift of Song music video. Some renowned local talents they have worked with include Inch Chua, Nathan Hartono, and The Sam Willows.

Notable performances in Singapore include the President’s Star Charity and Cultural Medallion and Young Artist Awards (2015), the opening of Changi Airport Terminal 4 (2017), and the premiere of their pianist-composer Jonathan Shin’s work Siginnah!, a concerto for solo quintet and orchestra with the Orchestra of the Music Makers (2018). In 2019, they were specially selected to perform in Busan, in an aviation announcement between Singapore and South Korea. That same year, they also performed in Jakarta, Indonesia for the Singapore Embassy’s National Day Celebration. In 2023, they premiered the commissioned concerto 3 Sketches of Singapore with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, composed by their violinist David Loke.

The Lorong Boys are proud alumni of the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (National University of Singapore).
