This performance will be a culmination of Karst’s 3-month long residency, sharing the stage alongside Conservatory students.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
As part of ongoing international collaborations, we are delighted to welcome Karst de Jong as Visiting Professor for Semester 1 of the 2019/20 academic year. Karst studied Classical Piano, Music Theory and Jazz Piano in the Netherlands. Being a former teacher of Music Theory at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, he is currently dividing his activities between the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague and the ESMUC (Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya) in Barcelona, teaching music theoretical subjects, improvisation and composition techniques. As a performer, music theorist, improviser and teacher, with a focus on promoting the integration of improvisation in the classical musician’s curriculum, he has taught many masterclasses of improvisation at international festivals, has been invited as a guest teacher and visiting artist at many renowned institutions all over the world, and has facilitated creative workshops at YST since 2017. He released two CD’s with solo piano improvisations: Improdisiac I & II.
