ABOUT THIS EVENT
One of the magical elements of performative art is its inherent ephemerality. Musicians, whether they are the concerto soloist, the conductor, or the supportive tutti orchestra, intuitively understand the wonderfully fleeting nature of a concert performance. When composers capture the creative spark – in Prokofiev’s case, the musical-portrait vignettes of his Visions fugitives– they also tap into these fleeting resonances.
Come join us for this concert featuring a selection of Prokofiev’s Op. 22 piano miniatures arranged for a full orchestra by students from the YST Composition Studio, as well as two vibrant concerto performances: Karol Szymanowsky’s Concerto for Violin No. 2 – the composer’s last major work – celebrates Polish highlander folk traditions and featuring YST concerto prize-winner violinist Leonid Datsiuk, while Rachmaninoff’s triumphant Piano Concert No. 2 – representing the composer’s victory over his own creative fugitives – will be wonderfully captured by YST concerto prize-winner pianist Wang Chien-Jou.
