Experience the best in contemporary classical music with OpusNovus, the dynamic ensemble made up of talented students from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music. From cutting-edge compositions by renowned living composers to hidden gems of the contemporary repertoire, OpusNovus has something for every modern music enthusiast.
The program for this concert features a diverse range of contemporary classical music, with works by Toshio Hosokawa, Louis Andriessen, Salvatore Sciarrino and Sofia Gubaidulina. The concert includes Hosokawa’s “Landscapes I,” evoking the natural world through beautiful and evocative soundscapes; Andriessen’s “The Hague Hacking Scrap,” which showcases the composer’s characteristic energetic and rhythmic style; Sciarrino’s “Il silenzio degli oracoli” (The Silence of the Oracles), a work that delves into the mysteries of the ancient world; and concludes with Gubaidulina’s String Quartet No. 2, a work that pushes the limits of traditional quartet textures.
