The Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore, offers a unique and adventurous 21st century Asian environment in which we train musicians to shape the artistic landscape in Singapore and in the world. The Conservatory is distinctively international in terms of its faculty, student population and artistic outlook. Head of Winds (Faculty in Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Trumpet, Horn, Trombone, or Tuba)

YST is seeking an outstanding, internationally recognized artist/teacher to fill the position of Head of Winds. This is a full-time position. The successful candidate will be an outstanding soloist and/or collaborative musician in flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, or tuba, with significant performance and leadership experience, the desire and experience to teach gifted Conservatory students, and the expertise to lead the Woodwinds, Brass & Percussion area. Participation in the artistic life of Singapore and the region is also expected. In addition to maintaining a dynamic studio, the candidate will also be active in teaching collaborative ensembles, engaging in community and outreach activities, and recruiting students to the Conservatory through both national and international involvement at various levels, including targeted pre-tertiary programs and similar organisations throughout the region.  

Requirements for interested applicants include: 

  • A Ph.D., D.M., Masters or equivalent in areas relevant to conservatory training. 
  • An exceptional performer as well as a dedicated teacher with a proven track record of leadership and teaching at an elite performance level. 
  • Strong leadership, communication, collaborative and organisational skills. 
  • Teaching experience in a conservatory or other tertiary-level institutions focused on professional training in areas of music including performance, pedagogy, and artistic research. 
  • Evidence of artistic research activity in music in areas such as performance and pedagogy. 
  • A passion for teaching, engaging and supporting conservatory students. 
  • Works well in a collaborative and innovative conservatory environment. 

Rank/Salary: Practice-track position at the rank of Associate Professor or higher, with benefits package commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Executive Assistant to Deanery

The Executive Assistant to the Deanery provides administrative and operational support for the Dean and Vice-Deans and serves as the secretariat to the Governing Board.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as first point of contact for the Deanery and the Conservatory.
  • Monitoring YST Conservatory correspondences including phone calls & emails and taking necessary action and responding on behalf as appropriate.
  • Arrange travel and detailed travel itineraries for senior management as well as institutional guests.
  • Assist with visitor experience for institutional guests, such as through facilitating guest visits and supporting VIP receptions.
  • Prepare agendas, take minutes and manage logistics for Board meetings.
  • Organise meetings, coordinate staff forums and maintain strong working relationships with academic and administrative teams.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders from the higher music education sector as well as arts industries and institutional partners in Singapore and globally.
  • Coordinate with Artistic Coordinator and Strategic Project Manager on key institutional projects.

Requirements

  • Degree in Music or strong music background.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Self-driven, proactive, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Enthusiasm and warmth of personality whilst maintaining professional discretion.

Technical & Operations Executive / Senior Executive

YST is seeking a full-time Technical & Operations Executive or Senior Executive. The role involves assisting in the planning, coordination and professional execution of all technical aspects of performance, rehearsal and academic activities within the Conservatory building for both internal and external events. The Technical & Operations Executive will work closely with the production team (led by the Artistic Coordinator), faculty, visiting artists and students to ensure the seamless delivery of each production and academic activity. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Provide technical support for productions and academic activities including but not limited to classes, rehearsals and performances.
  • Assist in setting up and coordinating technical requirements, including resource and manpower planning.
  • Manage crew scheduling, training and performance.
  • Liaise with external suppliers as required.
  • Support the maintenance, renewal and procurement of technical equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with technical, operational and safety regulations.
  • Ensure that all technical aspects are carried out in a professional manner, contributing to the overall success of events.

 

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Diploma or degree in Theatre Production/Arts Management/Music Performance or related field. A classical music background would be an advantage. 
  • Basic knowledge of stage equipment and production. 
  • Early career professionals with a passion for technical production are encouraged to apply.

Research Coordinator, Centre for Music & Health

Background
The Centre for Music and Health (CMH) is the first dedicated research center in South-East Asia to spearhead and investigate cutting edge, evidence-based practices that leverage the efficacy of music for health and well-being. Situated in the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, one of the leading conservatories in Asia, and embedded within a top-tier research university, the CMH is uniquely positioned to catalyze the artistic and scientific excellence of the NUS community towards research excellence in this emerging field. The Centre aims to establish world-class music programs and interventions to support crucial aspects of health at NUS and in Singapore, and beyond; and to develop interdisciplinary translational research and evaluation methods to support our evidence-based approach. We aspire to become the leading center for music and health in Asia, pioneering the development of music-based methods and interventions to improve people’s lives.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with grant writing, writing and submitting IRB ethics applications, collecting data, and organizing and overseeing participants’ payment/reimbursement.
  • Recruit and liaise with study participants, including advertising research studies through various platforms (e.g., in flyer, email, and social media formats, etc), and be the primary point of contact for study participants.
  • Oversee training of CMH Research Assistants and Student Assistants
  • Contribute to literature reviews, experimental design, sample size power analysis, statistics and data analysis, and manuscript writing.
  • Assist with writing up, communicating and disseminating findings/results (in conferences, popular science forums, blogs, social media, etc.) as appropriate.  

Requirements

  • A recognised degree in Music Psychology, Medicine, Public Health, or another area of relevance to Music & Health.
  • At least 1 year of prior research experience.
  • Experience with empirical research experimental design, data collection and analysis.
  • Excellent academic/research writing abilities.
  • Grant writing experience a plus.
  • Good organisational and administrative skills.
  • Able to work independently, but also a good team player.
  • Adaptable and able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
