(POSTPONED) Forum Series: 18th Century Keyboard Teaching

30 March 5:30pm

Steven Baxter Recital Studio
Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music

KOO SIAW SING, presenter

ABOUT THIS EVENT

How did keyboard masters teach during the eighteenth century? What keyboard pedagogical concepts and philosophical thoughts were presented in keyboard lessons? How did keyboard teaching evolve over the second half of the eighteenth century, during which the pianoforte eventually replaced its predecessors? This forum will lead into a study of treatises in the art of keyboard playing which have largely been overlooked and forgotten. The concepts and principles from these treatises provide us with some core values in piano studying and musical interpretation. They are relevant and applicable to modern-age piano teaching.
