ABOUT THIS EVENT
Maduro & YST Conservatory present
GENFREE
/ˈdʒænˌˈfri/ n. Event
Etymology: Music from the middle ground
1. A wordplay on the intersection of genre and free
2. A midweek evening of music presented by students, faculty and alumni of Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music streamed live from Maduro that adopts classical music as a springboard into a lexicon of musical genres comprising jazz, folk, improvisation and the ilk, insofar as to crossover into the realm of mixology.
We mark the debut of GENFREE on 26 January with the doleful grandeur and rich passion of violin virtuoso Yuchen Zhang alongside Bernard Lanskey and Yun-hua Chang on piano and Louis Woosuk Jeong on cello as they take you through musical landscapes, diving headfirst into the works of J.S. Bach, Debussy and Rachmaninoff. Get a glimpse across the bar into Maduro SG‘s new cocktail programme waiting to be uncovered through an inspired drink pairing. Back on the stage, multifaceted violinist David Loke and pianist-composer Jonathan Shin of the Lorong Boys complete an evening for the senses with improvisations in G minor.
This event will be livestreamed on http://genfree.maduro.sg, and will also appear as part of the Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music International Symposium 2020 (Online Edition).
