Admissions FAQs
Have a query? Find answers to commonly asked questions below.
1.1 Is there a quota on the number of students admitted into YAP?
We currently do not have a cap on the maximum number of students enrolled into YAP. If the student passes the application and audition process, YST will offer the student a position in the programme.
1.2 Will a YAP student have priority in the admission of YST’s BMus programme?
All BMus candidates (including YAP students) must go through the same process of application and audition.
However, YAP gives you access to one-on-one lessons with a professor who can provide you with a level of training beyond what you can achieve through private lessons outside. As you will also be attending weekly group studio classes to observe other undergraduates’ playing, there are also peer learning opportunities that are essential to your musical development. Historically in YST, many former young artists continue to the BMus degree programme after completing their high school.
1.3 On what circumstances can a YAP student be considered for early admission to YST’s BMus programme?
Throughout the YAP, you will receive feedback on your instrument playing and progress from your professor. There will also be annual jury assessments. If you feel that you are making exceptional progress, and your professor also feels that you are ready to commence undergraduate training full-time, then you can reach out to us to discuss your proposal for early admission to BMus.
After which, you will go through the same application and audition process as BMus candidates. After your audition, if the Conservatory Admissions Committee agrees that you have demonstrated good aptitude for early admission, we will put up a request to NUS Senior Management and MOE on your behalf. Once MOE approves your early admission, you may then withdraw from high school and enroll in BMus programme.
1.4 I am an international student studying overseas. What do I need to do to apply for YAP?
You will need to be enrolled in a school in Singapore first as you will require a student pass.
If you choose to transfer to a Singapore school from your country of residence, you will need to submit a student candidature letter (proof that you are enrolled in a Singapore school). If you do not have any transcripts from the school in Singapore by the time you apply for YAP, you will need to submit the most up-to-date transcripts from the school in your country.
